Photographer:
Produce still images for news, sports and features assignments for The Gazette and gazetteonline.com. Close collaboration with reporters, editors, designers and television producers on all print and broadcast stories. Specialize in illustrations and conceptual portraiture for weekly art and entertainment magazine Hoopla and other publications.
Multimedia:
Record and produce audio slideshows and video for gazetteonline and hooplanow.com. Created interactive multimedia photography galleries using Flash for gazetteonline.com. Film news footage and interviews along with writing scripts for anchors on KCRG-TV9 news broadcasts. Participate in photo department blog and social media presence. Conceived, pitched and photographed a twice-a-month MyStyle photo column featured in Hoopla and accompanied with video, stills and text for hooplanow.com.
Photo editing:
Recently served as assignment editor for Hoopla, a weekly arts and entertainment magazine, until it became a part of the newspaper; formerly assignment editor for the defunct monthly Edge Business magazine as well. Meet with editorial staff to collaborate on the development of story ideas and concepts for cover photos. Selection of models and make up artists as well as securing locations for cover shoots. Assign other staff photographers cover stories and help develop their ideas and concepts. Editing images and working with designers on final image selection.
Weekend and holiday photo editor: June 2003–August 2007
Served on a rotation as weekend and holiday photo editor for The Gazette; managing assignments and spot news coverage, collaborating with page designers on photo usage, participate in final decisions of story and image usage on front page and local news section fronts, editing and performing prepress production on staff and wire images.
Intern mentor and training:
Publicize and recruit for the Gazette’s year-round paid photojournalism internship program. Select the finalists from candidate pool and collaborate with Visual Editor on final selection. Train the interns in company procedures as well our specific cameras, video equipment, lighting and software. Ongoing training and critique throughout internship on images, captions and multimedia in addition to how to effectively work with reporters, editors and television producers. Help establish goals at start of internship and meet throughout internship to follow up on progress. Work with Visuals Editor to ensure assignments help interns achieve their goals for the internship while still giving them a broad experience. Edit a final portfolio at the conclusion of the internship and provide assistance and advice for moving on to future internships and jobs.
Supporting integration of newspaper and television newsrooms with ongoing training of newspaper reporters and television reporters and videographers on improving their still photography, as well as crafting accurate and complete captions.

Photographed features, news and sports on a daily basis; generated feature photo ideas and closely collaborated with reporters, editors and designers on stories. Used digital cameras and laptop for off-site transmission of in-town and out-of-town assignments.
The Sidney Daily News, Sidney, OH
Chief Photographer June 1996–August 1998
Photographed a variety of daily assignments and stand alone feature photos. Responsibilities included assigning and editing staff photos, hiring and training interns and multiple stringers; color correction and prepress production of photos; budgeting and ordering for photo department; maintenance of darkroom and computer equipment. Researched and implemented digital cameras, Photoshop and Quark into the photo department.
Arizona Daily Wildcat, University of Arizona, 30-35 hours per week
Photographer/Photo Editor June 1993–December 1994
Responsibilities included management and training of a staff of twelve photographers; budgeting for the photo department; darkroom maintenance and operation of AP Leafdesk. Assigned and edited staff photos in addition to photographing daily assignments. The Wildcat is a five day per week, fully independent student newspaper at the University of Arizona.

For the past five years participated with panel of three other professional photojournalists to review and assign grades for the final portfolios for the Advanced Photojournalism students graduating from the Professional Photography program at Hawkeye Community College.

Viscom 327/527 Photo Illustration: Fashion, Ohio University: During fall quarter 1999, maintained the photo studio for illustration students and assisted Professor Gary Kirksey with studio and location lighting demonstrations.
Skills
Fluent or competent with Macintosh computers and software including Photo Mechanic, Photoshop, InDesign, Quark XPress, Flash, Soundslides, iMovie, Final Cut, Audacity, NICA, Saxopress and WordPress. Experience gathering digital audio in the field, audio editing and integration of audio with stills and video. Creation and editing of video for online using miniDVs and DSLRs. Able to color correct digital images and scans for print and online reproduction. Experienced with remote transmission of images from the field. In addition to digital and 35mm SLRs, proficient with medium and large format camera equipment and the use of location and studio lighting. Able to read and speak some Spanish.
